Burnin’ Beauty
Candles by Pacifica
- Meghan
Growing up with three kids sharing one bathroom, countless relatives in and out of the house, and incredibly vocal and demanding felines always trying to shove doors open, getting the privacy and time to go #2 was sort of like playing dodgeball. You just ran in there, did the best you could and got out of there before you got hit. Or caught. Or attacked. The only saving grace in this gym-class-style dumping was: The Match. My mother always kept an ample supply of matches in the bathroom so that no matter what kind of damage you did and or who was banging on the door to come in next, you could cover your ass and get out of there like nothing happened.
So, since youth, I’ve been very diligent about the lighting of the match. When I left the south it infuriated and alarmed me that other people didn’t light matches. I mean, there are people all over the US that just take dumps, flush, and then let it smell! Unbelievable.
So how does this all tie into beauty? Well in my ripe old early 20’s I fell in love with candles. Yes, I’d been lighting them in my college dorm room (illegal), and taking them to various hippie séances I partook in during my directionless youth, but I’d never really thought about how delectable it would be to select them, light them, and have them be the ONLY smell that ever emanated in my very own bathroom. Now, living alone and enjoying the freedom to invite over my own guests, I’ve taken a liking to choosing my own candles. And I choose Pacifica.

The Experience:
Well, it’s a candle. So the best part is how good it smells. I love the Tibetan Mountain Temple. Even though it has a touch of patchouli it doesn’t make you think of cross country bus trips or those weird kiosks at the mall. It’s mixed with ginger and smells subtle and delicious. I fire it up and leave it in the bathroom so it delicately radiates throughout my lovely apartment. I’m also partial to Vanilla Vera Cruz and the Tahitian Gardenia. It’s smooth, subtle and calming. There’s really nothing better.
Tips:
- Sometimes I light multiple candles at once. Peppermint, Tibetan Mountain Temple and something citrusy are a wonderfully mild combination of scents.

Whenever I shop at Whole Foods, I can’t resist picking up another Pacifica candle to add to my collection. I have every scent they offer and can tell you from experience that you can’t go wrong with any of them (and I’m usually pretty picky about stinky candles). My favorite is the Tahitian Gardenia.
